At Linton Tweeds, as much we love fabric, we love the beautiful creations that are made from it. One of our most loyal customers (and favourite fashion designers) is Maja Żróbecka from MiaGiacca. She operates MiaGiacca from Szczecin, Poland and sells her beautiful handmade clothing to clients stretching the four corners of the globe.

We felt her story from medical translator to fashion maven, as well as her amazing designs were worth sharing with our wonderful blog readers. Take a read of our interview with her as well some of the stunning tweed designs from her latest collection.

Why did you decide to choose fashion designing as a career?

“I went into fashion after a decade of working as a medical translator because I couldn’t find a properly made tweed jacket that would also be a great fit and made from high-quality fabric. When the retail offer disappointed me, I decided to ask my seamstress to create a bespoke jacket for me. This sparked the idea of starting MiaGiacca. I simply couldn’t stand the fact that the quality of women’s clothing had deteriorated so much.”

“I created a unique brand that would specialize in limited editions of tweed clothing made from noble fabrics with a rich heritage.”

Tell us why you love working with tweed and in particular Linton Tweeds?

“To me, tweed is the most beautiful fabric in the world. Multicolored, textured, soft, versatile. It can quickly elevate any look. Plus, my mother worked with tweed when I was a kid. She created beautiful suits for herself when fashionable clothing wasn’t available in Poland.”

“I love working with Linton Tweeds because you have a phenomenal product. I appreciate the quality and the fact that I can choose from fabrics with a predominance of natural fibers. This is my number one rule when selecting qualities. I also love your customer service: all the team is helpful and ready to assist. I also appreciate your long history of tweed weaving – this makes your company exceptional.”

What according to you is a favourite part of being a fashion designer?

“Talking to my customers and fulfilling their needs. My customers are looking for clothing that they cannot buy anywhere else so we talk about the designs they would like and then we create their dream pieces.”

“I love seeing how my ideas take shape, how they start to “live” but there isn’t anything more rewarding that seeing my design on a happy customer.”

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

“Timeless classics with a subtle nod towards fashion trends. I like clean forms and styles that are easy to wear with existing wardrobe items.”

Where does your inspiration comes from?

“Mostly from talking to women, asking what is it that they want. I also go through my family archives and take inspiration from my mom’s work.”

Which pieces are you most proud of from your latest collection?

“I am very proud of our Margaret dress because it’s classy and trendy at the same time. I love checked fabrics and this dress has a perfectly matched pattern, something that we pay a lot of attention to.”

“I also love our Reese off-white boucle blazer – a classic in any wardrobe.”

What can we expect next from MiaGiacca in the future?

“We want to focus on hand-crafted limited-edition clothing form the world’s finest fabrics. We will release a collection of beautiful cocktail dresses soon, as well as a complete business look for professional women.”
