Debra Drake visits Linton Tweeds

We have been graced with a visit to the mill from Debra Drake, one of our favourite garment makers, sewing specialist and finalist of the Great British Sewing Bee in 2022. A dream of hers was to visit Linton Tweeds to see where countless tweeds she has used in her garment designs have been woven. Debra has guided her sewing with style course members to complete their own bespoke French Couture jacket since launching her new career path after (GBSB). Debra is privileged to be tutoring three French couture jacket short courses at UAL/ Central Saint Martins this year where Linton Tweeds is supplying Tweed for each student.  We wish Debra well for her busy schedule of sewing and her exciting new plans for 2027.

Debra Drake - Sewing Bee finalist and 'Sewing with style' French couture jacket course owner

Linton Tweed is my recommendation for people that attend my French Couture Jacket course and also for all my personal makes.  For me, it’s the heritage of the product - all the great couture houses have used Linton Tweed for decades.  The quality of the fabric is renowned, but as a maker, the great joy for me is the malleability: it responds beautifully to the use of hams, clappers and pressing tools produce a 'one of a kind garment'.  The aesthetic beauty of the fabric also hits the spot, should I be looking for a classic tweed, or something a little more modern, I find it incredibly hard to choose!  I eagerly look forward to Linton's Tuesday and Friday drop each week.  Finally, it’s the customer service; nothing is too much trouble for the team.  You know you’re buying the best and it’s made in Britain.

It was lovely to show Debra and her Husband, Andrew around the Mill with managing Director, Ross Walker, and Linton Direct Designer, Gemma Tolson.
