Tweed, As Worn By These 5 Famous Faces: How They Styled It

Over the decades, royals, popstars and actors from all around the world have been spotted wearing tweed; and the fabric has been used by some of the most iconic fashion houses.

Over the decades, royals, popstars and actors from all around the world have been spotted wearing tweed; and the fabric has been used by some of the most iconic fashion houses. Our fabrics are favoured by brands including Chanel and Balmain, and they’ve been used to create garments that have been worn by countless celebrities.

We always love to see how different well-known faces are styled when wearing tweed; so we’ve picked a short selection of big names, and we’re going to explore their signature tweed styling choices.

Why is Tweed a celebrity favourite?

Tweed is so versatile, and can be styled in so many different ways - even for the red carpet! As it has been historically used by luxury brands, it has also developed an association with heritage and classic style, adding to its ‘celeb’ appeal.

Celebrity style profiles: How these 5 famous faces wear Tweed

We’ve selected a range of different celebrities to show you just how versatile tweed is when it comes to styling:

Catherine, Princess of Wales

No one has a more impressive rotation of tweed blazers than the Princess of Wales, and there’s something so quintessential about the way she styles them. Some of the most frequent tweeds that we have seen the Princess wear are houndstooth styles, typically in grey, beige, and brown tones. Style-wise, the Royal opts for traditional cuts, creating a sharp silhouette. However, Catherine does occasionally move away from these more muted tones, opting for tweed in bright, bold blue - showing us that it doesn’t always have to be neutral when it comes to picking the right tweed blazer.

Gigi Hadid

American supermodel Gigi Hadid has been a trailblazer in reviving tweed for all-new younger audiences. She’s been spotted several times wearing a variety of different tweed garments, from oversized, boxy tweed jackets, to co-ord sets, to embellished tweed mini dresses. Her styling shows that tweed can certainly be modernised, without taking away from the timeless appeal of the fabric.

One of our favourite combinations that the model has been papped in is a boxy, checked tweed jacket, paired with classic blue wash denim jeans and trainers. It’s not uncommon to associate tweed with formalwear - but it isn’t always the case.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams wears his tweed pieces with slick, contemporary styling. He was pictured at a Chanel show in 2017 wearing an oversized tweed jacket created by the brand using our fabrics, and the garment was paired with relaxed trousers and trainers - proving that vintage styling isn’t the only option for tweed.

Blake Lively

Across the pond, US actress Blake Lively is known for the way she reimagines tweed for glamorous, high-brow events - proving it’s not just casual outings. From tailored tweed dresses to evening jackets, she uses sharp cuts and playful textures to create her red carpet-worthy looks, often wearing pieces from the likes of Burberry and Alexander Mcqueen.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake is often styled in tweed in a timeless, understated way. He’s been pictured in tailored blazers and vests, which he styles with crisp shirts and slim-fit trousers to create a sharp silhouette - shown perfectly by his outfit for the Dior SS24 show.. His take on tweed leans toward the traditional, with clean lines and classic tailoring rather than experimenting with bold colours or finishes.

Top takeaways from celebrity tweed styling

Want to learn how you can translate some of these celebrity styling hacks into everyday outfits? Here’s our top takeaways.

Mixing high-fashion inspiration with wearable pieces

Not every element of your outfit needs to be making a statement when you’re wearing tweed - focus on accentuating your tweed garment by pairing it with understated extras - denim jeans, fresh trainers, or a trench coat are all you need to make your tweed garment shine.

Accessorising to elevate tweed

The devil is always in the detail with tweed, so use accessories to complement your garment, rather than to take away from its appeal. A simple leather bag, a chic silk scarf, or some dainty jewellery will be enough to add more focal interest to your outfit.
