We’re biased, but the best way to make the most of the dark evenings has to be to start another tweed sewing project - and now is the perfect time to think about the pieces you’d like to add to your Spring wardrobe! The switch from Winter to the lighter, brighter Spring months can actually be mirrored perfectly with your creations. Choosing seasonal hues and light weight weaves will give you a tweed garment or accessory that works throughout the Spring.

We’ve asked some of our experts to share their top Spring tweed sewing tips and themes, serving as some initial inspiration for your next piece.

How to choose the right fabric for a Spring tweed garment

Tweed follows the seasons, in that in the Winter, the focus would be primarily on keeping warm and creating a garment that retains heat. In the Spring, we don’t emphasise this as much, but there’s still an element of warmth to consider  - especially if you’re in the UK! It becomes more about striking a balance between the weight of your tweed, and the way it captures the essence of the season - when we think of Spring, we’re thinking lighter, brighter, softer colour combinations and styles. Tweed fabrics with open structures are also a great option for Spring-time pieces, as they are softer and more flexible, making garments made using this type of fabric lightweight and breathable.

Spring tweed colour palette guide

Spring is the time that we see colour making a reappearance in our wardrobes, as we slowly shift away from the heavy, saturated tones, towards more natural, pastel, shades. We’ve selected a few of our go-to hues for the season, explaining why they work and the projects they’re best for.

Coastal Blues & Sky Tones

As we approach March, we’ll gradually see more daylight, and hopefully this means more of those crisp, blue-sky days that really make us feel like Spring is here. You can embody this in your tweed sewing with our blue tweed fabrics, you’ll find shades that range from pale sky blue to denim and turquoise. Blue tweeds feel calming and fresh, and these colours are ideal for overshirts and transitional layering pieces.

Soft pastels & washed out brights

Spring tweed embraces colour in a stylishly subtle way!. Powder pinks, blush, butter yellow and pale aqua are perfect tweed base colors.  These tones work beautifully in cropped jackets, co-ord sets allowing you to playfully experiment with bolder, brighter colours in accessories. If you would like to see some of the tonal variations we have, our pink fabrics collection which is a great starting point - you’ll find lots of wearable Spring palette options here.

Power greens

Think Brat summer of 2025, think bold shades of chartreuse, fresh lime and Mint, these colours are still bringing hope and prosperity into SS 2026, paired and accessorised with neutrals, blues and browns for a modern and vitilised style for the spring season ahead. Our green tweed fabrics selection offers a wide range of choices perfect for your spring wardrobe.

Spring trends for your next tweed project

These next pointers from our experts are all about how you can get creative with the look and feel of your Spring tweed garment or accessory - there might just be something here that sparks that final bit of inspiration that you needed to get started!

Found treasure

When we say 'found treasure', we mean tweeds that feel like collected memories, treasured possessions - they evoke nostalgia, bringing back memories from holidays, or perhaps pieces of art that have caught our eye. Look for intriguing multi-tonal colour palettes in jewel tones, mosaic interlacing patterns, or bright 70’s colours for fluid styling.

Fringe

If there’s a time to be playful and experiment when sewing with tweed, it’s got to be Spring! One hot trend that comes to mind is fringing - whether it’s tassels, feathery eyelash, fuzzy or fantasy yarns, they all embrace Linton Tweed’s most tactile qualities.

Modern layering

Bold checks are not just for winter coats! The concept of modern layering proves that bold patterns can work well in Spring, especially when paired with a lighter base hue and fresh colour palettes. A large subtle windowpane check will add sophistication to any cropped or tailored cotton base jacket, in a fresh pastel palette.

Pillow talk

As tweed becomes lighter, pillow talk introduces a softer, more ethereal side to the fabric. These airy, lace-like tweeds blur the line between knit and weave with transparent structures and floating weft yarns. Look for lightweight leno in shades such as white, oyster, and eggshell for an elegant, fresh finish.
