We’re biased, but the best way to make the most of the dark evenings has to be to start another tweed sewing project - and now is the perfect time to think about the pieces you’d like to add to your Spring wardrobe! The switch from Winter to the lighter, brighter Spring months can actually be mirrored perfectly with your creations. Choosing seasonal hues and light weight weaves will give you a tweed garment or accessory that works throughout the Spring.

Tweed follows the seasons, in that in the Winter, the focus would be primarily on keeping warm and creating a garment that retains heat. In the Spring, we don’t emphasise this as much, but there’s still an element of warmth to consider  - especially if you’re in the UK! It becomes more about striking a balance between the weight of your tweed, and the way it captures the essence of the season - when we think of Spring, we’re thinking lighter, brighter, softer colour combinations and styles. Tweed fabrics with open structures are also a great option for Spring-time pieces, as they are softer and more flexible, making garments made using this type of fabric lightweight and breathable. 

Spring is the time that we see colour making a reappearance in our wardrobes, as we slowly shift away from the heavy, saturated tones, towards more natural, pastel, shades. We’ve selected a few of our go-to hues for the season, explaining why they work and the projects they’re best for.
