How To Get Creative With Our End Of Line Fabrics

We’ve got a whole selection of end of line tweed fabrics online, and they come in pieces of 1-3 metres. To spark your imagination, we’ve come up with some creative ways that you can put these short-run pieces to good use - find out more, and don’t forget to share your creation to our community page!

What are end of line tweeds?

End of line (EOL) tweed refers to fabric that is no longer in active production order and this happens for various reasons. The particular yarn is no longer available, the colourway that was used originally might have been retired, or the design has simply completed its run (for example, it was a seasonal style). An EOL fabric can also be a one off collection length left over from a bulk production order or a bespoke tweed so it's always worth keeping an eye out for new additions to the EOL range.

How to put end of line tweed to good use

The EOL cuts are generally a jacket length cut between 2-3 meters, so EOL is the perfect way to attempt your first jacket length at a reduced set price. You may have extra meterage within your EOL length which is perfect to experiment with interfacing and stitching on your sewing machine before you start sewing your jacket pattern. Our Eden and Beatrix Linton jacket patterns are an easy beginner introduction to sewing a jacket, with step by step images and instructions.

Add contrast details to garments

Contrasting details can totally refresh the final look of your creations, using only the smallest amount of tweed. Choose an EOL fabric with colours that stand out against the shade of the fabric you’ve chosen for your garment, and work it in as trims on cuffs, collars, or lapels for a designer-inspired look. You could even use a little more of your fabric and add a contrasting panel to your tweed skirt or jacket, or to pockets on shirts.

Create your own small accessories

Considered touches have the potential to upgrade an entire outfit, and you can use end of line fabrics in this way by creating your own small accessories. Shorter lengths are ideal for creating multiple small pieces, from chic keyrings, bag tags, or charms. You’d get multiple items from a run of 2-3 metres, so you could build a whole collection of one-of-a-kind accessories.

For slightly bigger projects and with some more proficiency using tweed, you can explore items like floral brooches, coin purses, card holders, or even glasses cases. To take things up a level, you could even create your own small zip-up travel pouches or makeup bags - see where a little imagination can take even the shortest length of tweed?!

Hairbands

We can’t think of an accessory that is more Chanel-coded than a tweed headband - and if you’ve spotted a fabric (or a similar fabric) to one you’ve crafted with already, you’ll have your own little co-ord set. It’d be a relatively simple project to cover an enamel hairband with tweed, but a level of experience would be needed for making sure the finish looked as seamless as possible.

Bags

With an EOL piece of tweed, you could certainly look at crafting a larger accessory such as a tote bag or shoulder strap bag. There are plenty of designer-styles that you could mimic, our favourite is the Chanel small classic handbag. You could start simple though, with a rectangular tote bag shape, and work up to creating these more complex long shoulder bag styles. From here, you could look at sleek styles like clutch and baguette bags.
